NORMAL MAINTENANCE ITEMS

 

 

bulletoil changes - recommended every 3,000 miles, or 90 days

bulletbelts - check with every oil change

bullettiming belts (where applicable) - usually every 60,000 miles, or 90,000 miles

bulletbrakes - front brakes usually last 20,000-30,000 miles, rear brakes usually 60,000 miles vary depending on driving habits and conditions

bullettransmission services - usually every 30,000-40,000 miles

bulletcoolant services - usually every 2 years, or 30,000 miles, some coolant types are good for 5 years, 100,000 miles (extended life coolant)

bullettires - as a rule should be rotated every 6,000 miles, some vehicles such as 
4 wd should be rotated every 5,000 miles.

bullethoses - check with every oil change, they usually rot from the inside out

bulletspark plugs - usually every 30,000, some every 60,000, some every 90,000

bulletspark plug wires - usually every 60,000 miles or when they go bad 

bulletdistributor cap and rotor - cars that have them usually every 60,000 miles

bulletair filter - should be checked with every oil change

SOME COMMON REASONS FOR BREAKDOWNS

 

bulletOVERHEATING - when the temp gauge gas gone to red or hot, usually after a coolant leak

bulletWATER PUMPS- usually leaking and cause overheating, possible engine damage from overheating

bulletTIMING BELTS- usually break and can cause severe engine damage if interference engine

bulletTIRES- usually come in flat, due to lack of tread and steel coming through

bulletFUEL PUMPS- usually come in as cranks, no start condition

bulletBROKEN BELTS- usually due to improper maintenance or belt tensioner has seized or broken apart

bulletBROKEN TIE RODS- usually come in broken due to lack of maintenance, causes loss of steering

bulletBROKEN BALL JOINTS- usually come in broken, or making noise due to lack of maintenance/lubrication 

bulletALTERNATORS- car comes in dead, usually volt gauge has shown discharge or charge light is on

bulletBATTERIES- usually last about 4-5 years or fail early due to bad alternator

bulletBRAKES- usually leaking wheel cylinders or blown brake line casing low or no brakes, brake linings worn out

bulletTORN CV BOOTS- usually driven with torn boot for long time and axle breaks from lack of lubrication, and or water intrusion

bulletTRANSMISSIONS- can go at any time, mostly on higher mileage cars, lack of routine maintenance

bulletEXHAUST SYSTEMS- usually leaking and noisy

bulletIGNITION MODULES- can go at any time, usually causes a no start condition

bulletSTARTER- usually come in as a no start, no crank condition, usually have acted up before
